How a Sgraffito is created?

How does a Sgraffito come to Live?
To start with, we take the measurements of the wall and we study the project in all details.
Then we prepare few sketches and together with our customer we chose the one that fits the best.
After the definitive drawing is finalised, we zoom it out with the method of "squares", increasing it from scale 1:1 up to, for example,  scale 1:10, so that it perfectly fits the wall.
Now the full size drawing is ready to be transported into the wall. (on the photo).

Finally, comes the day for creating of the art piece. The Sgraffito is created day by day, in the sense that the part of the sgraffito drawing you decide to create on a particular day, must be finished the same day, before the lime dries off.  The first step is to prepare the mixture for the first and second layer of the lime (on the picture below first layer is red and the second one is yellow) and apply it to the surface designated for the "first day" of sgraffito.

When the limes are dryed to the right point, we transfer  our  drawing with the "spolvero" technique form paper support onto the wall.

And finally we are ready to start scratching off our sgraffito with different kinds of tools (on the picture- Dunio working with children on a sgraffito in Agordo, Italy).

~~~~~ These are the tools that we use! ~~~~~
This is the beginning of the "second day", we transfer of preparatory drawing onto the wall.
Finished piece.
